STEP INTO OUR LABORATORY
The first step to innovation is recognizing a need. A couple years back, Lee Frady was at a commercial real estate water damage site where EPIC was removing and drying office carpet tiles as part of a water mitigation plan. He noticed that when the team reinstalled the tiles, they were dry but the wear patterns were now rearranged, creating a mottled look. The team had done their job, but the mismatched result was just not up to par.
Lee put his mind to the job. While walking through his office one day, it dawned on him that carpet tiles are always laid on a grid system, and, if carefully tagged and inventoried during the removal, they could easily be replaced exactly the way they were.
This is why EPIC Labs exists: to make ideas like Lee’s come to life. Right away, EPIC Labs went to work on unearthing a tagging system that would be simple, durable, and portable—something every team could carry with them. Now every single First Responder vehicle carries a carpet tagging kit, and replacing carpet tiles due to mismatched wear patterns is a thing of the past.
"This is why EPIC Labs exists: to make ideas like Lee’s come to life."
We make it a priority to be one step ahead of whatever’s coming next. Through EPIC Labs, we encourage our people to see problems as opportunities. Our best practices come straight from the combined effort and intelligence of every person on our team, and we really like it that way. It keeps us on our toes, keeps our standard of quality high, and makes dealing with disaster just that much easier.
